A warm welcome to our Year 3 class page.
My name is Mrs K Thomas and I am the class teacher.

Here in Year 3, we are proud to welcome the children into Key Stage 2 life by combining many different learning styles in a rich learning environment.
We are very fortunate to have such a fantastic school and we make use of as many areas as we can.
These include our outdoor shelter and wooded area, our shared learning areas, the green screen room, and of course our classroom.
We also have access to a variety of technology and devices including ipads, chromebooks and laptops.

Learning in Year 3

Our learning is based around the four core purposes of the Welsh Curriculum.
We encourage and inspire our pupils to be :
  • Ambitious, capable learners ready to learn throughout their lives.
  • Enterprising, creative contributors, ready to play a full part in life and work.
  • Ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world.
  • Healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.

Our cross curricular activities combine all 6 areas of learning  :
Expressive Arts
Health and Wellbeing
Humanities
Languages, literacy and communication
Mathematics and numeracy
Science and technology
Most importantly, thread through the fibre of everything we do in Year 3 are the values of the Pen-y-fai way, respect, honesty, joy, kindness and our faith in God.
Topics in Year 3 may include :
Predator
Mighty Metals
Scrumdiddlyumptious
Tribe
Myths and Legends
Ocean Deep
Urban Pioneers

Important information

Hwb Learning Platform
Every pupil at our school has a Hwb account and access to Google Classroom. Hwb is the digital platform for learning and teaching in Wales. Hwb provides its users with access to a range of centrally-funded, bilingual, digital tools and resources. It is the Welsh Government’s strategic digital channel to support the delivery of the curriculum in Wales.
Important Information
Fruit
A fresh fruit snack may be brought in for first play or payment can be made at the office in order to access our Fruit Tuck Trolley.

Class Rewards
We work as a class to earn 100 dojo points per half-term. If we reach our goal we choose a class reward. Previous reward ideas have included a cinema day and a picnic in the woods.

Being Brilliant
Each week we have a 'Brilliant' target. Every child tries to get into the 'Spotlight' to earn class dojo points.

PE
PE day is Thursday. Labelled kit must be brought in for use on this day. PE is taken by our coach Mr Carpenter ‘Chippy’.

Homework and Reading
Homework Folders and reading books should be returned every Thursday and will be sent back home on a Friday.

 Communication
We communicate regularly via our class Dojo page.
ClassDojo is a school communication platform that teachers, students, and families use daily to build close-knit relationships between school and home. We use it to share what is being learned in the classroom and at home  through photos, videos, and messages.
Pupil Voice
We encourage pupil led learning at every opportunity by carrying out weekly Pupil Voice sessions. The children provide fantastic ideas that enhance their own learning.
