Croeso! A warm welcome to the year 6 class page.
I am Mrs Fitz-Gerald the year 6 class teacher at Pen-y-Fai, I am responsible for ensuring everyone has a really enjoyable final year at our school and is ready for their new adventures at comprehensive school.

Our Learning Environment

At pen-y-fai we are very fortunate to have a fantastic school building and we make use of as
many areas around the school as we can.

These include the outdoors, shared areas, green screen rooms, ICT suite and our classroom.
We have a wide range of technology and devices that we use in nearly all lessons including iPads, laptops and chrome books.

Learning in Year 6

Our learning is all topic based and develops the four core purposes of the Welsh curriculum.
In Year Six we encourage pupils to be:
. Ambitious and capable learners ready to learn throughout their lives.
. Enterprising and creative contributors, ready to play a full part in life and work.
. Ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world.
. Healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.

We cover the curriculum through a number of topics that cover 6 areas of learning
. Expressive arts
. Health and well-being
. Humanities
. Language , literacy and communication
. Mathematics and numeracy
. Science and technology

Pupils enjoy many independent projects and tasks that encourage them to use skills learned in a cross curricular way.

Year six topics may include:. Identity
 World war 2
Storms and shipwrecks
World of Water
Frozen Kingdom

Blood Heart

 Roses and Royals

Hwb Learning Platform

Every pupil at our school has a Hwb account and access to Google Classroom.
Hwb is the digital platform for learning and teaching in Wales.
Hwb provides its users with access to a range of centrally-funded, bilingual, digital tools and resources.
It is the Welsh Government’s
strategic digital channel to support the delivery of the curriculum in Wales.
